Doubled over in pain every month, a feeling of heaviness in your lower abdomen, and a belly so bloated by late afternoon that you have to unbutton your jeans – sound familiar?
Tzw. The so-called "endo belly"looking as if you were five months pregnant) along with persistent pelvic pain are daily realities for many women living with endometriosis.
For years, we hear: "That's just how you are,", "Periods are supposed to hurt," or "It's just sensitive bowel syndrome."So, we start getting used to the idea that this pain is normal and that the only solution is taking another painkiller.
What if I told you that your body isn't trying to fight you, but rather trying to defend itself? And that targeted movement combined with myofascial work can bring real relief, reduce bloating, and help you regain a sense of control?
1. Where do "Endo Belly" and pelvic pain actually come from?
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition. When micro-inflammation occurs within the pelvis, your nervous system interprets it as a threat and switches into defense mode. What does this mean in practice:
* The vicious cycle of tension: Your pelvic floor muscles, abdominal wall, and fascia contract reflexively, creating a "shield" to protect the painful area. However, these tight tissues press against blood and lymphatic vessels. Blood and lymph can no longer flow freely, swelling develops, and the pain comes full circle.
* Gut trapped in place: Our digestive system needs subtle movement (micromovements) to digest properly. When the tissues around the pelvis and abdomen lose their elasticity and glide, the intestines have to work under restrictive conditions. The result? Trapped gas in the bowel loops, bloating, constipation, and a firm, hard belly by the end of the day.
A restricted diaphragm: Have you noticed that when you’re in pain, your breathing becomes shallower? Shallow breathing cuts off the work of your diaphragm – your main breathing muscle which normally acts as a natural pump, massaging your internal organs and pelvis.
2. Why is a painkiller alone not enough?
Painkillers are great emergency support – and you absolutely shouldn't give them up when pain paralyzes your day. However, it's worth understanding what they do and... what they don't do.
A pill turns off the pain signal sent to the brain. What it doesn't do is remove the mechanical tension from your tissues. Tight pelvic floor muscles, a stiff lower back, or a locked diaphragm remain in defense mode. To truly relieve pressure on your belly and pelvis, we need to send a signal directly to the nervous system: "You are safe, you can let go."And that is exactly where targeted movement comes in.
3. How does targeted movement help with endometriosis?
Movement for endometriosis has nothing to do with grueling gym workouts or doing hundreds of crunches (which often escalates defensive tension even further!). It is very subtle work focused on specific mechanism :
Restores tissue glide: Gentle mobilizations of the pelvis and ribcage allow the fascia to regain elasticity, improving lymphatic flow and reducing the feeling of heaviness.
Relieves the digestive system: Specific positions and breathwork create space in the abdominal cavity, making it easier for intestinal contents to move and reducing bloating.
Calms the nervous system: low, mindful movement combined with breathwork shifts your body from fight-or-flight mode into a state of recovery and relaxation.
Want to find out what your body specifically needs?
Every case of endometriosis is unique, and every body responds to inflammation in its own individual way. What brings relief to one person in 5 minutes might require quieter nervous system and breathwork for another first.
